Charleston Refresher | Improver Workshop

22 Jun 2024

2:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Observatory Community Centre
Rawson St, Observatory

This 3-hour workshop will refresh your Charleston fundamentals. Charleston was the first-ever global dance craze, and a precursor to the Lindy Hop. It’s great with the hot jazz of the early 20th century as well as with the swinging jazz of the 1930s and ‘40s, and Lindy Hoppers love to mix it in with all the other rhythms and tricks they have in the bag. In this workshop, you’ll recap some solo Charleston basics, and then work on how to Charleston with a partner – with tips on effective leading and following as well as essential vocab to get you on the social floor.

Please note that this is an Improver-Level workshop: it’s expected that every attendee will have been introduced to Charleston basics.

No need to bring a partner: we rotate partners in class. Anyone can lead or follow – roles are not gendered. Read our first-timer’s guide for more info.

Teachers: Nicole & Ruby

Note: CTS members get 30% off

Minimum attendance & cancellation: A minimum of eight (8) confirmed attendees is required for a weekend workshop to take place. We reserve the right to cancel a workshop if fewer than eight people confirm their attendance 72 hours before the class.
